Homemade Chai Tea Lattes
Anne Murray, MS, RD
My healthier homemade chai is a flavorful blend of cinnamon and cardamom, simmered together to create a cozy, spiced base. Sweetened with honey and combined with your choice of milk, it’s a nourishing and wholesome take on the classic chai. Perfect served hot or iced, this version uses simple, real ingredients to deliver comfort without the extra sugar or artificial flavors. Enjoy a balanced and refreshing chai tea latte that’s easy to make at home!
- 2 tbsp Loose Black Tea or 2 tea bags
- 2 cups Water
- 1 cup Milk I used almond
- 2 tbsp Honey
- 2-3 Cinnamon Sticks
- 4 Cardamom Pods
- 4 Cloves
- 2 shots Espresso
Boil the spices: In a small pot, combine 1 cup of water with 1 tsp each of ground cinnamon and cardamom (or use whole cinnamon sticks and cardamom pods). Bring the water and spices to a boil, then reduce to medium heat and simmer for 5 minutes to infuse the flavors.
Add milk and honey: After 5 minutes, pour in 1 cup of milk (dairy or plant-based), and espresso (optional) and 1-2T of honey or sweetener of your choice. Stir well, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for another 2-3 minutes.
Hot: Strain the mixture into a mug and enjoy immediately.
Iced: Let the mixture cool slightly, then pour over a glass of ice for a refreshing iced chai latte.
Enjoy your cozy, homemade chai tea latte!
