Crispy Brussels Sprouts: A Delicious and Nutritious Side Dish
Anne Murray, MS, RD
Brussels sprouts are a healthy and nutritious vegetable, but they can be difficult to enjoy if they are not cooked properly. Steamed Brussels sprouts often have a mushy texture and a bitter taste. However, crispy Brussels sprouts are a delicious and satisfying side dish that everyone will love.Making Brussels sprouts crispy is easy. Simply toss them with olive oil and salt, and then roast them in the oven until they are golden brown and tender on the inside. The high heat of the oven will caramelize the Brussels sprouts and give them a delicious sweet and savory flavor.Crispy Brussels sprouts are also more likely to make you eat more than mushy steamed Brussels sprouts. This is because crispy foods are more appealing to the senses and they also take longer to eat. This gives your body more time to register that it is full, which can help you to control your portion sizes.
For extra crispy Brussels sprouts, cut them into quarters instead of halves.
If you want to add more flavor to your Brussels sprouts, try adding a tablespoon of balsamic vinegar or maple syrup to the olive oil before tossing.
To make air fryer Brussels sprouts, simply preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) and cook the Brussels sprouts for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
Brussels sprouts can be served on their own as a side dish, or they can be added to salads, bowls, or stir-fries.
Make sure to cut the Brussels sprouts into a uniform size so that they cook evenly.
Don't overcrowd the baking sheet. If the Brussels sprouts are too crowded, they will steam instead of roast.
Check the Brussels sprouts frequently towards the end of the cooking time to make sure they don't overcook.
Squeeze fresh lemon on top for an extra zest
